Happy (belated) Independence Day! Yesterday, our partner’s school held an impressive celebration to mark the 78th anniversary of India's independence from British colonialism. While watching the festivities, we were struck by the success story of this school. Beginning with a vision the Lord gave one young untouchable Indian – our partner – this Christian school has surpassed expectations and illustrates what God can do when we obey His call.
The school opened in 2019 with 110 students in nursery through 5th grade. Today, it serves 1,345 students through 10th grade. One of the best schools in the area, students travel from all over to learn from the top-notch teachers and staff who are all believers and speak English. For a number of years, the school has been self-sustaining – meaning income from tuition surpasses operating costs – and in 2023, began financially supporting 30-50 ch*rch planters! Hallelujah! (The pastors’ monthly honorarium is in addition to the free spots reserved for orphans at the Children’s Homes and some of the local pastors’ children.)
Already certified by the state, the school is in the process of earning accreditation at the central level, with a visit scheduled for next month. If it receives this designation, the government will provide an annual grant based on student enrollment. (Government funding will not alter the existing curriculum.)
